Thea Hvistendahl is a Norwegian director, born in Norway. She graduated with a degree in directing from Westerdals School of Communication in 2013. Specializing in music videos early in her career, Hvistendahl has, since 2015, expanded her work to include short films and commercials. In December 2017, her debut feature film, The Monkey and The Mouth, premiered in cinemas across Norway to widespread critical acclaim. The film, a hybrid of concert and fictional narrative, made its international debut at the Göteborg Film Festival in 2018.
Her latest work, Handling the Undead, opened the 2024 festival, marking an adaptation of John Ajvide Lindqvist’s successful novel. The film also competed in the Nordic Competition.
Through a combination of innovative storytelling and striking visual style, Hvistendahl continues to push the boundaries of contemporary Norwegian cinema.
